Terre Haute – Today, a local business peddled some happiness.  Actually, a lot of happiness.  Yes, Christmas came came a little early thanks to some two wheeled gifts.

30 children were presented with new bikes and helmets.  It was part of Academy Sports + Outdoors 17th annual Bike Donation program.

This year Academy partnered with the Terre Haute Police Department. The surprise event took place at the 14th and Chestnut Community Center.

“It’s always fun to see the kid’s faces and the joy that they get a new bike before Christmas,” said Andy Richman, Academy Sports + Outdoors.

“We see in our community everyday the need we have the holiday’s is a special time Christmas time and some families don’t have a lot and this could really make their Christmas a lot better,” said Chief John Plasse, T.H.P.D.

The program will benefit 5,500 boys and girls at more than 120 separate donation events in states where Academy Sports operates.
